DATA OASIS IS A RESOURCE HUB AND INDEX FOR OPEN DATA.
What problem are we here to solve?
At Data Oasis we are starting to index the world’s open data by making valuable scientific data discoverable and prompting both AI and human researchers to embrace “adjacent possibilities” and get out of their specialized silos.
Researchers often struggle to discover or share the underlying data of their key findings. Example: many disciplines need easy fast access to the FDA clinical trial results which while technically “open” are very hard to search and process.
If an asteroid was headed towards earth, what would we put in our “data ark”? It would not likely be cell phone data or the internet of things - it would be humanity’s greatest achievements: law, culture, math, and science.
We are experiencing a “tragedy of the open data commons,” much like the air and the oceans which everyone relies on, but no one fully takes responsibility for (nor could they.) The need for full access to the world’s open data treasures is urgent if we are to solve last mile interdisciplinary problems such as climate, cancer and auto-immune diseases.
How will we do this?
#1
Mapping, indexing and “virtually federating” the world’s open data treasures.
#2
Dynamically tagging datasets to ensure they are discoverable by a much wider range of people, algorithms and disciplines.
#3
Create a hub for sharing open-source data tools, best practices, api’s, tutorials as well as a mechanism to locate research collaborators and provide a directory of open data services.
